Cult football heroes – Jan Molby

Before Jan Molby rose to prominence being overweight and unfit meant that your dreams of becoming a top football player were limited. However, like a true superhero, Jan taught us that the impossible is achievable.   Such was his popularity in the Red side of Merseyside that ‘Jan’ featured on the top ten baby names list in Liverpool.

The portly Dane began his career at his hometown club Kolding won the Dutch league with Ajax Amsterdam before moving to Liverpool FC in 1984. He scored 44 goals in 218 games for the club and was the man of the match in the first ever Liverpool FC v Everton FA Cup Final in 1986; which Liverpool won. What a player. What a man.
