Childrens Toys used to be simple; the abacus; Lego; a rocking horse; a skipping rope; a ball! Good honest fun. Recently these gems have been replaced by modern monstrosities; Wiis; Tamagotchi’s; iPods; iPhones; remote control helicopters; rock star guitars and keyboards; pink sizzling kitchens with accessories for 3 to 6 year olds etc etc. Is it me or has the world has become unnecessarily complicated?

Superbike riders are not famed for being the brightest of individuals. The best riders are those that can switch off the part of their brain that asks them to consider the consequences of their actions. Swinging a motorbike around a corner at 120 miles per hour is a special talent. As I stood and watched the recent British Superbike meeting at Brands Hatch I was filled with a confusing feeling. On one hand I held these men up as heroes whilst on the other I couldn’t help remember that what they were doing was a really bad idea.

Chicago; the home of Barack Obama; ER; and2.8 million people . The centre of jazz; the birthplace of the deepdish pizza and during the 1920’s the epicentre of organised crime. America’s second city has all the grandeur of it’s elder brother yet is friendlier and noticeably more relaxed.

So why is it called the windy city? It is famous for having torrid winters and bitter springs however the reference to it being windy is not related to the stiff breeze that slips off lake Michigan. Instead it is a reference to the City’s politicians and their boastful speeches about the city. In 1858 an argument began between Chicago and it’s rival Cincinnati. Politicians from each city claimed that theirs was the best. As a response to jibes from Cincinnati The Chicago Tribune wrote an article ‘from the Windy City’ and the nickname stuck.
