Pointless Roadsign No 3 – Brands Hatch

Superbike riders are not famed for being the brightest of individuals. The best riders are those that can switch off the part of their brain that asks them to consider the consequences of their actions. Swinging a motorbike around a corner at 120 miles per hour is a special talent. As I stood and watched the recent British Superbike meeting at Brands Hatch I was filled with a confusing feeling. On one hand I held these men up as heroes whilst on the other I couldn’t help remember that what they were doing was a really bad idea.

Think Superbikes

It was a lovely little touch that the billboards and crash barriers were adorned with advertising by the Think Bike! government initiative. Unsurprisingly none of the riders took heed of this sound advice as they continued to hammer around the track at speeds reaching 180 miles an hour. 3 hours in and I had witnessed no less than 5 crashes which each resulted in the rider being flung from his bike into a tire wall.  What a gloriously inappropriate placement of a road sign!

They're definitely not thinking!
