Posh Camping

I like camping and have always been a bit sceptical about the sanitised holiday villages like Center Parcs. They claim to give visitors the sense of living in the woods whilst at the same time being comfortable and protecting them from the wild. And despite my reservations, I have to admit, I have been won over. Enjoying the outdoors on a cold winter’s day is fantastic. Going back to a warm chalet with a roasting fire and underfloor heating is far better than a damp sleeping back and a stale can of baked beans.

Posh Camping - Cabins v Tents

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not about to throw away my tent and burn my sleeping bag as there is definitely a time and place where camping beats sleeping inside but I have to admit that I now have a lot more time for a little cabin in the woods. Perhaps, dare I say it, the Canadians have got it right. I would be much more willing to book a cabin than go for a camping trip. The luxury of a warm shower without having to trample barefoot from a tent is too tempting. I would nevertheless always prefer camping when on a long expedition. Finding somewhere to pitch a tent can be one of the most exciting things on a long journey and you can truly feel like you are somewhere unique.
