When I arrived in Skopje, Macedonia I soon realised why no one has ever heard of this European capital. It is a dump. The most attractive tourist attraction is the supermarket and when you stroll around the grim streets you feel like the locals are eyeing up your vital organs.
Dreary, dreary Skopje
I was tired and miserable from a long day travelling through dreary Macedonia and I’d hoped that my impression of the place had been strongly influenced by my lethargy. However, I have scoured the internet to find someone with a positive opinion of the place and I have been entirely unsuccessful. In fact the coffin has well and truly been nailed when the tourist board lead their website with a picture of the road out of Skopje taken in the sixties. When the best your own tourist board can do is suggest you get to the nearest Car Hire vendor and escape what hope is there for you?
